I always vowed that I would never participate in a What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW), but recently I have had a lot of people asking about what I eat to fuel my training. As this blog is called Fuel Your Future with Tina, I feel it is only right that I show you what I eat….a day in the life of Tina’s belly if you like 🙂
So here we go…..This is exactly what I ate last Friday:
Pre-run fueling; Lots of carbohydrates, but simple and bland to not upset the stomach….mid run bathroom breaks are not fun!
pretzels and a buttered brown sugar bagel with banana
An almond and coconut kind bar, and a giant bowl of all kinds of fruits, 1 cup of plain greek yogurt, and MixMyOwn Granola. Notice the pretty bowl above…..and what it looked like once I mixed it around! I also consumed a Body Armor with 4 sprays of electrolytes from Enduropacks.
A handful of mixed fruit and nuts, a handful of Trader Joes Plantain Chips, and finishing this tub of cottage cheese
Sweet potato nachos with tomatoes, black beans, corn, olives, PLENTY of cheese for dinner, with TJ’s Quinoa chips and fresh made guacamole….I actually ate the rest of the bowl, this is what was left…….but forgot to take pictures!
And of course, the day would not be complete without the best part of the day…..DESSERT! I am currently limiting myself to one “sweet” a day. This can be whatever I like, and calories are not really a concern (within reason). It is important to allow yourself what you enjoy the most….in moderation. For me my sweet tooth rules my day, and I look forward to this. I believe that everyone deserves to have some food they enjoy if they put good food in the rest of the time.

So there you have it. A typical day of eats. I would guess I consume between 3200 and 4000 calories per day. I ensure I have plenty of carboydrates to fuel my runs, protein to rebuild my muscles from the intensity of training, and fats to keep my body working correctly.
Out of that 3000-4000 calories, I would say I consume a “normal person diet” full of healthy foods, and the remaining calories are for what I want to eat. For example, a salad is full of nourishing components, but the dressing, and croutons are what I want to eat. The one sweet I mentioned above is included in this number, but I can use the remaining calories however I like to liven up the healthy food.
I make sure to eat enough calories because I know just how important it is to perform. If you view each time you eat as an opportunity to recruit little helpers to make sure your body functions correctly, you will begin to crowd out the bad, and make sure you feel strong, healthy, and nourished!
