Inside Tracker and Thinking About the Future

Everyone knows that most elite runners will do absolutely everything they can to be the absolute best they can be. Often that means finding ways that are not morally or ethically correct to get that advantage. With more and more cases about cheating, our sport is headed in a bad direction, and I am sure we have not seen the last of this controversy.

I want to get the most out of my body too, I want to be the best I can be, and as much as these runners may find ways that they know in their heart is wrong (you know I am all about my gut directing me what to do), I have been lucky enough to come across a few companies who do want to help runners in a safe and legal way. In a way that actually saves their health too, not just pushing their bodies to a place where it was not naturally meant to be.

I have my EnduroPacks to help me recover better (and it really works!), I consume the right fuel to run to my best, and of course, I put in the time and hard work.

Recently though, I have been thinking more and more about the future, about a life after running being the priority, and I think it is time to start preparing for that. I think we all know what I am referring to here.

I am not quite ready to reveal to the world exactly what this is, but I am sure a lot of you can guess.

Tawnee and I ended up talking for another 45 minutes after the interview, and we have been in regular contact since. I am actually going to now see her for a full athlete analysis (via Skype) to see what we can figure out. I do intend on sharing this journey with you, but right now, my heart is not quite ready to give you any more details, and I hope you understand.

BUT

One thing I will share, is that last weekend, I did the Inside Tracker Ultimate Athlete Blood Test. They are currently analyzing my results to see various markers in my blood that I have never looked into before.

Now, Inside Tracker is not related to seeing Tawnee, but by looking at nutrient and hormone levels in my blood they provide highly individualized recommendations based on height/weight/age/gender and activity level.

They will then recommend specific foods to eat more or less of, as well as lifestyle related recommendations, while also taking my running goals into account.

I HATE getting blood work, and did have to lie down while they took the whopping 6 vials of blood (fasted might I add, that in itself was a struggle!!!!), but I am very excited to see what they find! I am sure many of you will be interested to hear, as maybe this is something you will want to consider in the future too!

Have you ever had your blood analyzed?

  • Hi Tina, happy Friday.

I have never had my blood tested, but I did see an interview with Mike Wardian on Inside Track and looked into it. Was to much financially for now as priority is expennses for Badger100. But I am considering afterwards, as it would be extremely beneficial.

    Have a wonderful day!

  • Enjoy your weekend Tina. It sounds like you have an awesome adventure planned and I look forward to seeing how it goes for you.

I’ve gotten blood work done for health reasons and actually for running once too but I’ve never tried Inside tracker before.

  • This is so interesting because I just hired a athletic nutritionist and he suggested getting my blood work done too. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what your results tell you.
And, I’m intrigued about the upcoming Podcast and I love you are talking and feeling and sharing about your future.
Have the BEST time at home with your family celebrating!!!! Cheers 🙂

  • Have a blast with your Hen party (I love the name!!) for you sister. Enjoy you time away. YES – enjoy it all!!!

  • Very excited for this! I understand not feeling quite ready to share exactly what’s going on, but I think your interview with Tawnee will be very helpful for so many of us. Really looking forward to hearing two of my favorite podcast hosts come together.

Can’t wait for this podcast. Not only will this be probably one of the best podcast all year–been waiting for you two to hook up since you did the MTA podcast–but I would really like to know about the value of these blood tests. I bet you didn’t battle it out, but you guys both recommend pretty different multi-vitamins, and I wonder which one is best–I can’t decide which one to switch too.

  • Yes I can guess but don’t feel pressured to share everything with us – it will happen when you are ready and you feel comfortable. Sometimes we have to figure things out in our own way before sharing with the world. Take it easy and enjoy your sisters hens party!! Xx

  • I had my DNA tested via a company called DNAFit which was really interesting. It didn’t really tell me a whole lot that I wasn’t already aware of to be honest as I know my body quite well but it was interesting nonetheless. Basically I have a high injury risk (which of course I’m well aware of!), I need more recovery, but that I’m equally balanced for endurance and speed which was quite the shocker as I much prefer long distance. It also said I was better on diets of protein and fat than high carb, which is very true! I’m not a carb lover at all so this is handy 😉 Very interesting…but the environment plays a huge role and your blood doesn’t necessarily define you. You can change.

Enjoy this time with your family – try, yeah it’s hard, to take it one decision, moment, day at a time and you are amazing. As Christina noted, only share what you feel comfortable in sharing and we will all be here to support you as best we can. I am looking forward to the podcast and I hope your time in England is delightful!

Have a wonderful trip Tina! Very interested to hear more about Inside Tracker, I’m currently training for Boston and have been dealing with amenorrhea for a number of months. I just had blood drawn by a doctor to get analyzed and am looking into finding a nutritionist to help me out but I know doctors can misunderstand it comes to athletes unless they’re sports-specialty. Can’t wait to hear how that goes, it definitely sounds like something I’d be interested in doing!

  • Have fun! I’ve never had my blood analyzed. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of your story.

  • I’m looking forward to the interview and learning more about your results. Inside Tracker has intrigued me. I’ve had my blood analyzed plenty of times for medical things (like thyroid and such) but never in direct correlation to my training. But the stress that I have in my life, that keeps building and building, that’s the real concern. I hope to pick up some tips or at least motivation on ways to change that from the upcoming episode!

Enjoy your bachelorette/HEN night with your sister! That sounds fun! 🙂

  • Have a wonderful time in England celebrating your sister!!! Very interesting about the blood tests – looking forward to hearing more.

  • Will be really interested to hear how you get on with the results and suggestions. I love all the science bit!
